In hopes of providing you with all of the information you need to make the best choice for your preferences and budget, we’ve put together a quick comparison of two of the top models on the market -- the 2021 Dodge Charger and the 2021 Chrysler 300.
Dodge Charger vs. Chrysler 300: Why Compare?
As outstanding as both full-size sedans are, there are differences that warrant consideration when making this type of investment. Is power more important, or does the amount of standard safety features reign supreme? Do you want a ferocious exterior, or is your commute comfort a higher priority?
The list of items to consider goes on and on. While we don’t review each and every one here, this comparison between the 2021 Dodge Charger and 2021 Chrysler 300 should give you all of the details you need to make an informed decision.
Dodge Charger vs. Chrysler 300: Price
If you took a gander at the price tag on either of these cars, you wouldn’t see much (if any) variance.
The 2021 Dodge Charger starts at $31,490 MSRP, while the 2021 Chrysler 300 starts at $31,940 MSRP. That difference of $450 likely isn’t going to sway you one way or another, so price doesn’t set one of these sedans apart. It does, however, prove that both are exceptionally affordable considering what you get for your hard-earned money.
The Charger has five available trims, ranging from the base SXT to the top-of-the-line Scat Pack Widebody, which will cost you at least $48,090 MSRP. The 300 is only available in three trims, starting with the standard Touring and ending with the 300S, which starts at $38,890 MSRP.
Dodge Charger vs. Chrysler 300: Engine/Performance
Both the 2021 Dodge Charger and 2021 Chrysler 300 offer two powertrain options: a standard V6 and an optional Hemi V8. While the standard V6 leaves something to be desired if you’re seeking that classic American muscle feel, the V8 delivers plenty of power and roar.
The Charger’s V6 creates 370 horses, while the V8 brings 485 horsepower to the party. With that said, the fuel economy isn’t horrendous, with early tests yielding 26 mpg highway for the V6 and 25 mpg highway for the V8.
As for the 300, the V6 boasts 292 horsepower while the V8 delivers 363 horses. Although you’re giving up some punch with the 300, its V6 engine does offer an estimated 30 mpg combined. As for the V8 engine, the gas mileage is less impressive -- early tests indicate only 19 mpg combined for the beefier motor.
Dodge Charger vs. Chrysler 300: Safety/Technology
In terms of safety and technology, the standard trim for both the Charger and 300 are modest.
The 2021 Charger does feature the UConnect system with a standard 7” infotainment display and modern conveniences like Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration. However, most of the top driver-assistance technology like blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assist do not come standard and must be tacked on.
As for the 300, the infotainment is slightly larger at 8.4” and offers a similarly user-friendly interface. Like the Charger, Chrysler’s SafetyTec Plus package doesn’t come standard and is only available on upper trims.
Dodge Charger vs. Chrysler 300: The Verdict
When compared head-to-head, it’s difficult to find a victor between the 2021 Dodge Charger and the 2021 Chrysler 300. The Charger offers a more powerful engine, superior gas mileage and more trim options, but costs more for the superior models. As for the 300, it’s got a better interior and larger infotainment display. Ultimately, it comes down to the buyer’s preference, as both are outstanding options that will undoubtedly add some muscle to your morning commute.
Of course, you could always go a completely different route and check out the brand-new 2021 Ram 1500 TRX, which is sure to blow your socks off.
