The Ram 1500 got some great updates in 2020 and is expected to undergo a number of changes again in 2021, though none more noteworthy than the addition of the 702-hp off-road savvy 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. New technology, a trim level name change and a factory snow plow prep package are among the most notable changes for the 2021 Ram 1500. Here’s what we know about the changes to the Ram 1500 in 2021 so far.
2021 Ram 1500 Engines and Specifications
The 2021 Ram 1500 will likely feature five engine options, starting with a 3.6L Pentastar V6 producing 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. This V6 benefits from an eTorque mild hybrid system and wide-range variable valve timing that enables it to deliver up to 25-mpg on the highway.
Two versions of Ram’s infamous 5.7L Hemi V8 engine will be offered. The standard version delivers 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque, while the upgraded version utilizes an eTorque system that increases efficiency and provides an additional 130 lb-ft of supplemental launch torque.
The 3.0L V6 turbo diesel introduced in 2020 will also carry over. Praised for its efficiency, refinement and performance, the EcoDiesel engine delivers 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque.
New for 2021, the Ram 1500 TRX will feature a trim-exclusive supercharged 6.2L Hemi V8 engine producing 702 hp, 650 lb-ft of torque, and a ridiculous 4.5 second zero to 60 mph time. The off-road savvy TRX will be the most powerful street-legal half-ton pickup truck ever produced.
2021 Ram 1500 Trims
You can expect the 2020 Ram 1500 trims like the Tradesman, Big Horn/Lonestar, Laramie, Rebel, and Limited to carry over for the new 2021 model year with many of the same options.
For 2020, the Tradesman and Big Horn/Lonestar both come standard with the 3.6L V6, but the Tradesman features black bumpers while the Big Horn/Lone Star wears chrome. The Big Horn/Lone Star also steps up to premium cloth seating (vinyl is standard in the Tradesman) and Uconnect 12.0 with an available largest-in-class 12” touchscreen. (Uconnect 3 with a 5” touchscreen only offered in Tradesman)
The Rebel is the most off-road capable Ram 2020 trim (soon to be supplanted by the TRX), featuring Bilstein shocks, electronic locking rear axle and 33-inch aggressive all-terrain tires with a factory lift. The Laramie added stylish chrome accents, leather-trimmed seats and a premium nine-speaker Alpine sound system.
The 2021 Ram 1500 Limited will continue to be the most luxurious truck in its class, featuring real wood accents, heated rear seats and standard Uconnect 12.0 with the 12” touchscreen. Automatic deploying power running boards make entry and exit easier while a class-exclusive Active-Level Four Corner Air Suspension makes towing heavy loads far less of a hassle.
The previously named 2020 Laramie Longhorn—which infused serious off-roading capability with the lavish luxury of the Limited—will now be called the Limited Longhorn for the 2021 model year.
This is to better establish the trim as a premium luxury level model. The chrome-heavy Limited Longhorn will feature LED Headlights, fender flares and a new enhanced trailer tow package that features an integrated trailer brake, trailer reverse steering controls, and a trailer light and tire pressure monitor check system. Inside, the interior is adorned with real wood and satin metal accents, a digital rearview mirror, UConnect infotainment off-road pages, and a new head-up display with custom modes.
2021 Ram 1500 Pricing and Release Date
Official 2021 Ram 1500 Pricing has yet to be announced, but you can expect the Ram’s six trim levels to start at the following MSRP: Tradesman ($33,000), Big Horn/Lone Star ($37,000), Laramie ($41,000), Rebel ($45,000), Limited Longhorn ($52,000) and Limited ($54,000). If you want 4x4, add another estimated $3500 to the price. FCA will reveal full 2021 Ram 1500 model year updates, pricing information and the release date on September 1, 2020.
